Shark Week

2020-04-15T19:37:35-04:00August 16th, 2013|

What do you do when you get four young ladies on the boat about to start their sophomore year of high school that can’t get enough of shark week on tv? Why, take them shark fishing of course!

Mark Walsh, his daughter Erin and her three friends caught blacktip and lemon sharks until they were worn out. Note to self: I’m really getting OLD!

Another Day in Paradise

2020-04-15T19:37:48-04:00August 8th, 2013|

Had perfect weather conditions-high overcast with a light breeze to keep thing cool. Ran up in the Gulf with clients Don and Ken to catch red, gag, goliath grouper and mangrove, lane and yellowtail snapper.

Just a great day to be on the water and why we call it paradise!

Mark with a dorado on fly. Matt’s big dorado. The view as we left to fish every morning with the Hotel La Mision where we stayed. And lastly, the dirty half-dozen: James, Lars, bob, Dan, Matt and Mark.

Don Moore Memorial Grunt Tournament

I was extremely disappointed that we were blown off the water yesterday because of high winds and thunderstorms. I was supposed to fish the wounded warriors brought to Key West by Task Force Dagger (https://www.taskforcedagger.org). This organization does a tremendous amount of work with our Veterans coming home with injuries.

We did get in the annual Don Moore Memorial Grunt Tournament (despite high winds) to benefit the MARC House here in Key West. The MARC House provides services for developmentally handicapped adults and is another fine organization doing great things here in Key West.

The Kimmerling Curse

2020-04-15T19:41:06-04:00July 12th, 2013|

This is a sad story. A tale of bungling and ineptitude so great it boggles the mind.

I met my friend Jon back in 1975 when we served together in the Coast Guard. I’ve been trying to teach him to fish ever since-I have failed.

Jon came to visit and we went fishing. I had not seen Jon in a while and we had not fished together for years. The first mistake I made was handing Jon a rod with my best and most expensive Rapala plug. After several attempts to cast with line going everywhere and him wrapping the line around every […]
